| I started my affair with fiber at an early age. It has evolved into a love of all the fiber arts and everything related to them. All the fiber processes interact with each other. No matter what processes you choose to work with, the interrelationship of the fiber arts causes the piece to come together into a whole cohesive unit. I begin the creative process by using surface design techniques on a piece of my hand dyed fabric. The techniques build on one another and before I know it , the fabric has taken over and begins dictating what happens next. The fiber techniques seem to call to one another and suddenly the fabric piece I have been working on has bits of paper in it and beaded embellishments! Beading began for me as an escape from the intensities of my fiber arts. It has slowly evolved into an integral part of the pieces I create today.; My art is machine made and machine manipulated but the beading is done by hand. Whether I'm working on a piece of clothing, a quilt or a figure, the process of adding one bead at a time with needle and thread is the mental escape I need to become one with the cloth. |
